The Easy Detox
I never ever deprive myself. Sometimes I make what I call "spirited" choices (hello sugar, you're bad) because that's what I want at that moment. And then, at some point, I bounce back. Detox is my bounce back technique. Although it's become a bit of a trend, and I see many detox recipes and products around, don't try anything unless you know it's the right thing for you and your body.
I never do more than a day detox. I don't believe in longer detox programmes. I'm convinced they do more harm than good.
A day detox is something your body needs sometimes. Something to jumpstart your system. I have a detox day in my agenda, I call it the "perspective day". You get the point, it's more than a diet thing. I start the day with a good natural detox tea and I eat whole foods for the rest of the day. I also try to empty my head and do things I normally don't do on regular days, ehm...like reading a book.
The tea puts me in this state of mind where I feel good about myself with the first sip I take. The motivation brain trick. I love motivation brain tricks, they help me so much with getting back on track.
Put some boiling water on a pot. Add a fresh ginger root (you can grate or slice it), the juice of a lemon, and 2tbs of good apple cider vinegar. You can put it in a thermos and have it with you during the day, refills are perfect cause you still have the ginger. If you have low blood pressure issues, like I do, avoid adding more lemon to anything you eat that same day.
For the rest of the day I keep it simple. I eat fresh veggies, and fruits, some raw almonds, and good green smoothies with coconut or almond milk to keep my energy levels as high as possible.
Don't book too many activities for the day, try to avoid any serious exercise, and enjoy how you feel!
That's it. You're on your way to detox. Once you have one too many junk food treats, have a pot of this tea and start again. It's all about balance.
